OUR MISSION:

To educate and protect birds and wildlife as well as the air, land and water that life depends on. We strive to share information that will broaden the perspective of others to the beauty, wonder and variety of nature.

WHAT WE DO

Waccamaw Audubon Society has a thirty-year history of activism and service to the local community.

Waccamaw Audubon Society also serves as the host to the annual Litchfield Beach - Pawleys Island Christmas Bird Count, one of over 1700 Christmas Bird Counts counts held nationally. The Litchfield - Pawleys Island Count includes a 15-mile diameter circle centered on US Highway 17 at the gate to North Litchfield and regularly affords birders with counts of over 150 species.  Count data for all years may be viewed at the National Audubon CBC database. Use count circle code SCLP.  The count for 2021 is scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 30, 2021.

Waccamaw Audubon Society has sponsored a "BIRDING FOR TEACHERS" program at Huntington Beach State Park.  This program was started in 2012 by Bill Lanham and Mike Walker in cooperation with Dr Chris Hill of Coastal Carolina University. Nearly 250 area teachers have participated in this activity since its beginning.
